Government Benefits

Baby Bonus

The Baby Bonus is a one-off payment to help with the extra costs of a new baby or adopted child. From January 1st 2009, there have been changes made to the baby bonus. It is now means tested and is paid in 13 fortnightly installments.

To find out more about your entitlements and how to claim them, go to the Centrelink Website

From the home page, look under 'payments', and find Parent or Guardian (families) section which includes the Baby Bonus payment.

Parenting Payment

The Parenting Payment provides financial help for people who are primary carers of children. Parenting payment can only be paid to one person who cares for a child. It is means tested

Family Tax Benefit

Family Tax benefits are split into Part A and Part B.

Family Tax Benefit Part A helps you with the cost of raising children. It is means tested. For details of the current eligibility criteria go the Centrelink Website. From the home page, look under Individuals, and click on payments. You will find a section called Parent or Guardian, which includes Family Tax Benefit.

Family Tax Benefit Part B provides extra assistance to single parents and families with one main income. This includes circumstances where one parent chooses to stay at home or balance some paid work with caring for children.

From 1 July 2008, FTB Part B will be limited to families where the primary earner has an adjusted taxable income of $150,000 or less per annum.
